Howard Root: podcast appearances and interviews

Howard Eugene Root (13 April 1926 – 19 November 2007) was an American-born British Anglican priest, theologian, and academic. He served as Professor of Theology at the University of Southampton from 1966 to 1981. Following this, he was the Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome and a Counsellor on Vatican affairs to the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1981 to 1991. Root received his undergraduate education at the University of Southern California, earning a BA in 1945, before studying at St Catherine's Society, Oxford, where he completed a BA in 1951. He furthered his studies at Magdalene College, Cambridge, obtaining an MA in 1953, and at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he earned an MA in 1970. Trained for ordination at Ripon Hall, Oxford, he was ordained a deacon in 1953 and a priest in 1954. His academic career included teaching at Cambridge between 1953 and 1966, during which time he was a Fellow and Dean of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was also a delegated observer to the Second Vatican Council, reflecting his active engagement in ecumenical dialogue.
