Hideo Kojima: podcast appearances and interviews

Hideo Kojima is a Japanese video game designer, writer, director, producer, and internet personality born on August 24, 1963. He is best known for his work on the Metal Gear franchise, which has garnered widespread acclaim and remains his most prominent creation. Kojima's games are characterized by their highly cinematic style, influenced by his early passions for film and literature, and he is recognized as a pioneering auteur in the video game industry. He began his career at Konami in 1986, where he directed, designed, and wrote the original Metal Gear game for the MSX2. This title established the stealth game genre and laid the foundation for the long-running Metal Gear series, which Kojima led for nearly three decades until the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in 2015. During his tenure at Konami, he also created the Boktai series and produced others such as Zone of the Enders and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Kojima designed and wrote the graphic adventure games Snatcher and Policenauts, both known for their cinematic presentation. In 2005, he founded Kojima Productions within Konami, and he was appointed vice president of Konami Digital Entertainment in 2011. His involvement in the development of Silent Hills via the playable teaser P.T. was highly acclaimed before the project was cancelled in 2015, shortly before his departure from Konami. In December 2015, Kojima established his independent studio, Kojima Productions, and went on to release titles including Death Stranding in 2019 and its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, in 2025.
