About Ha-Joon Chang
Ha-Joon Chang is a South Korean economist and academic specializing in institutional economics and development. He served as a lecturer in economics at the University of Cambridge from 1990 to 2021 before becoming a professor of economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies in 2022. Chang is the author of several bestselling books on economics and development policy, with one of his most recognized works being Kicking Away the Ladder: Development Strategy in Historical Perspective, published in 2002. His expertise has garnered recognition, and in 2013 Prospect magazine ranked him as one of the top 20 world thinkers. Chang has contributed as a consultant to several international organizations, including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, Oxfam, and various United Nations agencies. He is also a fellow at the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, D.C., and participates on the advisory board of Academics Stand Against Poverty.
