Grover Glenn Norquist is an American political activist known for his role as the president of Americans for Tax Reform. He is recognized for his advocacy against all forms of tax increases and is the founder of the organization that promotes this stance. Norquist is a member of the Republican Party and is notably the primary promoter of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a commitment signed by lawmakers to oppose increases in marginal income tax rates and to oppose net reductions or eliminations of deductions and credits unless accompanied by a matching reduction in tax rates. The pledge has garnered widespread support within the Republican caucus, with a significant majority of Republican members of Congress signing it prior to the 2012 election, as well as most candidates for the Republican presidential nomination at the time.
