George Miller: podcast appearances and interviews

George Miller is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Prior to his academic career, he was an Australian filmmaker with a career spanning over four decades. He is widely recognized for creating and directing every film in the Mad Max franchise, beginning with the original in 1979. His work includes notable entries such as Mad Max: Fury Road, which received critical acclaim and won six Academy Awards. Miller has earned various honors, including an Academy Award from six nominations across five categories, as well as awards from the British Academy Film Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and the Golden Globe Award. His career began with the Australian production of the first three Mad Max films, developed in partnership with Byron Kennedy. He later moved to Hollywood, directing films such as The Witches of Eastwick and Lorenzo's Oil, which garnered an Academy Award nomination. Miller also worked in animation, directing Happy Feet, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and its sequel. He has co-produced and directed films in diverse genres, including family dramas, comedies, and animated features. Before his film career, Miller trained as a physician at the University of New South Wales and worked in medicine for several years. He co-founded the production company Kennedy Miller Mitchell. Since the death of Byron Kennedy in 1983, his main producers have included his brother Bill Miller and Doug Mitchell.
