Gary Hawkins: podcast appearances and interviews

Gary Hawkins is the Chief Technologist for Hybrid Platforms at Softcat. Although he is mainly known for his role at Softcat, Hawkins has a background in filmmaking and academia. He has written and directed six films, including The Rough South of Harry Crews and The Rough South of Larry Brown. The former won an Emmy and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Gold Award in 1992, and the latter was recognized as one of Thirteen Essential Southern Documentaries by The Oxford American and reviewed positively by Variety. Hawkins’s screenplay DownTime was selected by the Sundance Institute for the Writer’s Lab in 2000. He has also been involved in teaching, serving as a member of the directing faculty at the North Carolina School of the Arts and as a visiting professor at Duke University, where he taught documentary film. His diverse background spans film production, academic teaching, and technology, contributing to his current role within the technological platform at Softcat.
