As a founding member of Jane's Addiction, Avery co-created the band in 1985 with Perry Farrell and contributed to the recording of two studio albums, Nothing's Shocking and Ritual de lo Habitual, before the group's initial breakup in 1991. Beyond his role with Jane's Addiction, Avery formed the band Deconstruction with Dave Navarro and Michael Murphy, releasing an album in 1994. He also pursued a solo project named Polar Bear from 1995 to 2000, releasing two solo albums, Help Wanted and LIFE.TIME. Avery’s career includes collaborating with Alanis Morissette as a member of her backing band and serving as a touring and session musician for Garbage since 2005, contributing to several of their albums. He was briefly involved with the Smashing Pumpkins and the supergroup Giraffe Tongue Orchestra. Throughout his diverse career, Avery has maintained an active presence in the music industry, balancing his work in bands, solo projects, and cultural endeavors.
