Eddie Garcia was a former Army veteran and special operations policy expert known for his work as a film and television actor and filmmaker. With a career spanning over seventy years, he contributed to nearly 700 productions and was recognized as one of the greatest Filipino actors of all time. Garcia was noted for his portrayals of authoritative, antagonistic, and comedic characters and received multiple awards for his performances, including FAMAS Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor, as well as honors for his work as a director. Throughout his career, he expanded from acting into filmmaking, directing several acclaimed films, including the highest-grossing movie at the first Manila Film Festival and award-winning works for their storytelling and social themes. He explored more complex roles in the 1970s and 1980s, often appearing in international productions and earning additional awards. In the 1990s, Garcia became a prominent leading man in political thrillers and biographical films. His later years saw a shift towards television and independent films, earning international recognition for his role as a grumpy elderly gay man in the film Bwakaw, for which he received awards at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival and Asian Film Awards. Garcia passed away in 2019 due to an accident on a production set.
