Matthew Raymond Dillon, born on February 18, 1964, is an American actor known for his extensive career in film and television. He made his feature film debut in Over the Edge in 1979 and gained recognition as a teen idol through roles in films such as My Bodyguard, Little Darlings, Liar's Moon, The Flamingo Kid, and three adaptations of S. E. Hinton's books including Tex, Rumble Fish, and The Outsiders. From the late 1980s onward, Dillon continued to build his acting career with notable performances in films like Drugstore Cowboy, Singles, The Saint of Fort Washington, To Die For, Beautiful Girls, In & Out, There's Something About Mary, and Wild Things. In 1991, critic Roger Ebert highlighted him as one of the best actors in his age group, equating his talent with Sean Penn's. Outside of acting, Dillon made his directorial debut with City of Ghosts in 2002 and has since appeared in numerous other films, including Factotum, You, Me and Dupree, The House That Jack Built, and Asteroid City. His role in Crash earned him an Independent Spirit Award as well as nominations for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Additionally, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for narrating Jack Kerouac's On the Road. On television, Dillon starred in the first season of the Fox series Wayward Pines in 2015, earning a Saturn Award nomination for his performance.
