Glenn Anton Rivers, known as Doc Rivers, is an American former professional basketball player and current NBA coach. Born on October 13, 1961, he played for 14 seasons in the NBA as a point guard, representing teams including the Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, New York Knicks, and San Antonio Spurs. During his playing career, he was an NBA All-Star in 1988 and was named one of the 15 Greatest Coaches in NBA History. After retiring as a player in 1996, Rivers worked as an NBA on TNT game analyst. He began his coaching career in 1999 with the Orlando Magic, serving until 2003. Rivers then coached the Boston Celtics from 2004 to 2013, leading the team to an NBA championship in 2008 and earning the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2000. His subsequent coaching positions included the Los Angeles Clippers from 2013 to 2020 and the Philadelphia 76ers from 2020 to 2023. In 2024, he was appointed as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, a position anticipated to last until 2026. Recognized for his achievements, Rivers was announced as a coaching inductee to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in April 2026, with his induction scheduled for August of the same year.
