Derrick Dewan Brooks, born on April 18, 1973, is a retired American football player renowned for his 14-year career as a linebacker with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the National Football League. He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles, where he earned consensus All-American honors twice. Selected by the Buccaneers in the first round of the 1995 NFL draft, Brooks established himself as one of the league's premier defenders through his numerous accolades, including an 11-time Pro Bowl selection and five-time first-team All-Pro honors. In 2002, he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and was instrumental in leading the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XXXVII. Brooks's impressive career earned him induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014 as well as the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016. After retiring from professional play, he served as co-owner and president of the Tampa Bay Storm in the Arena Football League from 2011 to 2017. As of 2025, Brooks holds the position of chief operating officer for the South Florida Bulls athletics program, continuing his involvement in sports administration.
