Deontay Leshun Wilder, born on October 22, 1985, is an American professional boxer who held the World Boxing Council heavyweight title from 2015 to 2020. He became the first American to hold the world heavyweight title since 2007, ending a historic period without an American heavyweight champion. Wilder began boxing relatively late, taking up the sport at the age of 20. As an amateur, he achieved notable success by winning a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 2008 Olympics, which contributed to his nickname, 'the Bronze Bomber,' a moniker he created in reference to Joe Louis's nickname, 'the Brown Bomber.' Known for his exceptional punching power, Wilder is considered one of the hardest punchers in boxing history. His knockout-to-win percentage is an impressive 95.55 percent, which is the highest in heavyweight championship history, with nearly half of his wins coming by first-round knockout.
