Denise Mina: podcast appearances and interviews

Denise Mina, born on 21 August 1966, is a Scottish writer known for her crime novels and short stories. She has been active in the literary scene since 1996. Her debut novel Garnethill, published in 1998 by Transworld, was a bestseller and received the Crime Writers' Association John Creasey Award for best debut. Mina continued the trilogy with Exile and Resolution, featuring Maureen O’Donnell, a character who is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. She has been recognized as a significant figure in the rise of Tartan Noir and has been described as ‘crime writing royalty’ by Val McDermid. Her novel Conviction, published in 2019, was selected as a Reese's Book Club Pick. Her latest novel, The Good Liar, released in 2025, explores issues surrounding forensic junk science and its impact on justice. Besides fiction, Mina authored The Long Drop, a non-fiction account of serial killer Peter Manuel’s trial in Glasgow in 1958. She also writes graphic novels, having contributed to Hellblazer for a year, and is involved in playwriting. Additionally, Mina regularly presents television and radio programs. Her diverse body of work and contributions to crime literature have established her as a prominent figure within the genre.
