Deborah Ann Harry, born Angela Trimble on July 1, 1945, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress best known as the lead vocalist of the band Blondie. She gained prominence with the band, which released its debut album in 1976 and subsequent albums that produced multiple hits, including four number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 between 1979 and 1981. The band achieved notable success with albums such as Parallel Lines and Autoamerican, with hits like Heart of Glass, The Tide Is High, and Rapture, the latter notable as one of the first rap songs to reach number one in the United States. Born in Miami, Florida, Harry was adopted as an infant and raised in Hawthorne, New Jersey. After completing college, she worked various jobs, including as a dancer, a Playboy Bunny, and a secretary;at one point at the BBC in New York;before breaking into the music industry. She co-founded Blondie in 1974 in New York City, leading the band through decades of influence and success. Harry also pursued a solo career, releasing her debut album KooKoo in 1981 and her second album Rockbird in 1986. During Blondie’s hiatus, she acted in films such as Union City and Videodrome, and starred in John Waters's Hairspray. She returned to music with Blondie in the late 1990s and continued releasing albums, including Panic of Girls, Ghosts of Download, and Pollinator. Throughout her career, she has maintained a presence in both the music and film industries.
