David Leonhardt: podcast appearances and interviews

David Leonhardt is an American journalist and columnist who serves as the editorial director for Opinion at The New York Times. Since April 2020, he has been the author of the daily Morning newsletter for the publication and contributes to its Sunday Review section. Previously, Leonhardt's column appeared weekly in The New York Times, and he also wrote the paper's daily email newsletter named after himself. He has been involved in various roles at the Times, including managing editor of The Upshot, a venture focusing on politics, policy, and economics with an emphasis on data and graphics, and Washington bureau chief. His career at the Times began in 1999, during which he authored the Economics Scene column and contributed to the Sunday Magazine. Leonhardt was also head of an internal strategy group called the 2020 group, which made recommendations to the Times about changes in newsroom practices in response to digital media trends. In addition to his work at the Times, he has written for Business Week and The Washington Post. Leonhardt co-hosted the weekly opinion podcast The Argument with Ross Douthat and Michelle Goldberg. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in April 2011 for his insightful analysis of complex economic issues such as the federal budget deficit and health care reform. He is also the author of the short e-book Here’s the Deal: How Washington Can Solve the Deficit and Spur Growth, published by the Times in 2013.
