David Carradine: podcast appearances and interviews

David Carradine was an American actor and director known for his extensive work in film, television, and stage. He appeared in over 200 roles throughout his career, gaining prominence as the star of the television series Kung Fu, where he played Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin monk traveling through the American Old West. Born John Arthur Carradine Jr., he was a member of the Carradine family of actors and began his career with a role in the 1965 Broadway production The Royal Hunt of the Sun. Carradine was recognized for his performances in B movies and martial arts films, including roles in Martin Scorsese's Boxcar Bertha, Death Race 2000, Cannonball, Deathsport, Q - The Winged Serpent, and Lone Wolf McQuade. He portrayed Woody Guthrie in the biopic Bound for Glory, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. His work on Kung Fu and the miniseries North and South also garnered Golden Globe nominations, and he received an Emmy Award nomination for Kung Fu. Carradine experienced a career resurgence with his role as Bill in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill duology, earning a Golden Globe nomination and winning the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. In recognition of his contributions to acting, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1997. Beyond acting, Carradine was also a director and musician, studying martial arts influenced by his Kung Fu role, particularly Shaolin quan. He was posthumously inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum Hall of Fame in 2014. Carradine died in Bangkok in 2009, with his death ruled an accidental autoerotic asphyxiation.
