Dave East: podcast appearances and interviews

David Lawrence Brewster Jr., known professionally as Dave East, is an American rapper and actor born on June 3, 1988. He began his music career in 2010 and gained recognition in 2014 with his eighth mixtape, Black Rose. The release of Black Rose attracted the attention of Nas, a fellow New York rapper, who signed East to his label Mass Appeal Records. Two years later, the label entered into a joint venture with Def Jam Recordings. In 2016, East was selected as part of XXL's Annual Freshman Class. His tenth mixtape, Kairi Chanel, was released in September of that year and reached number 38 on the Billboard 200 chart. His eleventh mixtape, Paranoia: A True Story, released in 2017, peaked at number nine on the same chart. East's debut studio album, Survival, was released in 2019 and peaked at number 11. His fifteenth mixtape, Karma 3, came out in 2020 and reached number 36. His second studio album, Fortune Favors the Bold, released in 2023, did not chart and marked his final project with Def Jam. In addition to his music career, East began acting in 2017, appearing as himself in the television series Being Mary Jane and The Breaks. He also played a supporting role as Mister Ford in the Netflix film Beats (2019). His notable acting breakthrough came with the Hulu series Wu-Tang: An American Saga in 2019, where he portrayed the rapper Method Man.
