Darryl Eugene Strawberry Sr. is an American former professional baseball right fielder who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball. Known for his prodigious home runs and commanding presence at the plate, he was recognized as one of the sport's most feared sluggers. Strawberry stood at 6 feet 6 inches tall and was known for his long, looping swing, which drew comparisons to Ted Williams. During his career, he played a key role in leading the New York Mets to a World Series championship in 1986 and contributed to two additional championships with the New York Yankees in 1996 and 1999. He was a consistent presence in the game, earning eight consecutive All-Star selections from 1984 to 1991. Despite his success on the field, Strawberry faced challenges related to substance abuse, which led to three suspensions by Major League Baseball and affected perceptions of his potential. Following his playing career, he served as an analyst for SportsNet New York.
