Daniel Howard Yergin is an American author, economic historian, and consultant specializing in the energy and economic sectors. He is currently the vice chairman of S&P Global, a role he assumed following the merger of IHS Markit with S&P in 2022, where he previously served as vice chairman. Yergin founded Cambridge Energy Research Associates, which was acquired by IHS Markit in 2004. He has authored or co-authored several notable books on energy and world economics, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power, as well as The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World, and The New Map: Energy, Climate, and the Clash of Nations. His articles and op-eds have been published in prominent outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Financial Times. Yergin is also involved in various organizations, serving as a director on the United States Energy Association, a trustee of the Brookings Institution, and as a long-term advisor to several U.S. administrations. Additionally, he is the chairman of the annual CERAWeek energy conference.
