Daniel John Cook Jr. (August 12, 1926 – July 3, 2008) was a sports writer known for his long tenure at the San Antonio Express-News, where he worked for 51 years. He is recognized for popularizing the phrase 'the opera ain't over till the fat lady sings,' contributing to American sports and cultural lexicon. Cook began his career at KENS in 1956 and remained with the station until 2000, during which time it was owned by the San Antonio Express-News. Although primarily celebrated as a sports icon, he later became a financial professional, working as a Certified Financial Planner and Wealth Advisor. In this capacity, he was affiliated with Lucid Software, providing financial guidance and advisory services.
