Craig Thomas: podcast appearances and interviews

Craig Thomas is an American television writer and author. He co-created the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother with Carter Bays, and they wrote episodes together for various television shows including American Dad!, Oliver Beene, and Quintuplets. Their work on How I Met Your Mother earned a People’s Choice Award in 2012. Thomas is also a member of The Solids, a band that performs the theme song for How I Met Your Mother. He has received seven primetime Emmy Award nominations, including for Best Original Song for the piece 'Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit.' After graduating from Wesleyan University in 1997, Thomas spent five years writing for the Late Show with David Letterman. In 2014, he collaborated with Carter Bays, Emily Spivey, and Greta Gerwig on a pilot for How I Met Your Dad; however, CBS declined to order a second pilot, leading to the project's discontinuation. Thomas’s advocacy extends beyond entertainment; he participated in the Writers Guild of America’s strike in 2019 by joining others in firing their agents to protest industry practices. His debut novel, That's Not How It Happened, was published in November 2025 by HarperCollins. The book draws inspiration from his personal experiences raising his young adult son with Jacobsen Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder caused by a deletion on the 11th chromosome. In addition to his creative work, Thomas has engaged in extensive fundraising efforts for Dr. Paul Grossfeld’s research at Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego, focusing on the genetic causes of congenital heart disease and Jacobsen Syndrome.
