About Craig Taylor
Craig Taylor, born in 1976, is a Canadian writer and playwright known for his diverse body of work which includes books such as Return to Akenfield, a follow-up to Ronald Blythe's 1969 work, and the best-selling Londoners and New Yorkers. His book New Yorkers: A City and Its People in Our Time won the Brooklyn Public Library Prize for Non-Fiction. Taylor has also authored One Million Tiny Plays About Britain, a collection of short plays. He teaches creative writing at Vancouver Island University. Taylor's writing has been highly regarded by critics; Mary Norris of the Times Literary Supplement described him as one of the most skilled writers of literary nonfiction, while The New York Times cited his work as a master class in self-effacing journalism. The Toronto Star compared his literary style to that of James Agee and Joseph Mitchell, highlighting his ability to capture the essence of New York City. From 2008 to 2023, Taylor served as the editor of Five Dials, a literary magazine published by Hamish Hamilton, an imprint of Penguin Random House UK. Additionally, he is affiliated with the Livestock Marketing Association.
