Clint Smith is an American writer, poet, and scholar known for his literary and academic work. He is a staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of the number one New York Times Best Seller How the Word Is Passed. This book received the 2021 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction and was recognized as one of the top ten books of 2021 by the New York Times. In addition to his nonfiction work, Smith has published two poetry collections, Counting Descent in 2016 and Above Ground in March 2023. His work often explores themes related to history, social justice, and the African American experience.
