Trevor George Smith Jr., known professionally as Busta Rhymes, is an American rapper, record producer, record executive, and actor born on May 20, 1972. He was an original member of the group Leaders of the New School, which gained national attention while opening for Public Enemy and appeared on A Tribe Called Quest's track Scenario. Following the group's disbandment, Rhymes established himself as a solo artist, releasing his debut album The Coming in 1996. The album was critically acclaimed, debuting in the top ten of the Billboard 200, earning platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, and receiving a Grammy Award nomination. Over his career, he has released eleven solo albums, with his most recent titled Blockbusta in 2023. Rhymes is known for notable singles such as Woo-Hah! Got You All in Check, Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See, Gimme Some More, and Touch It, among others. He has also contributed to hit songs by other artists including Don't Cha by The Pussycat Dolls, Rumble in the Jungle by the Fugees, and Look at Me Now by Chris Brown. Beyond his performance career, Rhymes founded the record label Conglomerate, formerly Flipmode Entertainment, and established the hip hop collective Flipmode Squad, formerly known as Flipmode. His contributions to music have been recognized through numerous accolades, including 12 Grammy nominations and the inaugural Rock the Bells Visionary Award by the MTV Video Music Awards in 2025.
