George Buddy Guy, born on July 30, 1936, is an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter known for his contributions to Chicago blues. He has played a significant role in shaping the genre and has influenced a wide range of renowned guitarists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Gary Clark Jr., and John Mayer. During the 1960s, Guy collaborated with Muddy Waters as a session guitarist at Chess Records and formed a musical partnership with blues harp virtuoso Junior Wells. Throughout his career, Guy has received numerous accolades including nine Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Medal of Arts, and the Kennedy Center Honors. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and was ranked 27th in Rolling Stone magazine's 2023 list of greatest guitarists of all time. His song 'Stone Crazy' was ranked 78th on the list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time. Eric Clapton has praised him as 'the best guitar player alive.' In addition to his musical achievements, Guy authored the book Damn Right I’ve Got the Blues in 1999, and published his autobiography, When I Left Home: My Story, in 2012.
