Bonnie Leigh McKee, born on January 20, 1984, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Following the release of her debut studio album Trouble in 2004 by Reprise Records, she experienced a musical hiatus after her label dropped her. During this period, she established herself as a professional songwriter, achieving notable success by writing ten singles that reached number one in either the United States or the United Kingdom. These songs have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide combined. In 2013, she returned to performing with the release of the single American Girl, and in 2015 she independently released the EP Bombastic. In 2024, after a long period of anticipation from her fans, she released a re-recorded version of her intended second LP, originally titled Hot City, which was scheduled for release in 2014 but was canceled by Epic Records. Tracks intended for this album leaked online and gained popularity among her audience, inspiring McKee to re-record them and release a 16-track album on streaming platforms. She is well known for her collaborations with Katy Perry, co-writing hits such as California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), Part of Me, Wide Awake, and Roar. Additionally, she co-wrote Taio Cruz’s Dynamite, which became the second-best-selling song by a British artist in the digital era, as well as songs for Britney Spears, Kesha, Cher, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Lambert. Her work also includes collaborations with Canadian a cappella singer Mike Tompkins.
