Billy Mitchell: podcast appearances and interviews

William Lendrum Mitchell was a United States Army officer known for his significant contributions to the development of the United States Air Force. During World War I, he served in France and commanded all American air combat units in the country by the end of the conflict. Following the war, he was appointed deputy director of the Air Service and became an advocate for increased investment in air power. Mitchell believed that air strength would be crucial in future conflicts and promoted the strategic use of bombers, organizing bombing runs against stationary ships to test this concept. His advocacy often brought him into conflict with other Army leaders, leading to tensions and eventually to his not having his temporary appointment as a brigadier general renewed in 1925. He was court-martialed for insubordination after publicly criticizing high-ranking military officials for their policies regarding battleship investments. Mitchell resigned from the Army shortly afterward. Posthumously, he received numerous honors, including a Congressional Gold Medal. An American military aircraft, the North American B-25 Mitchell, is named in his honor, as is Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport in Wisconsin.
