William Stanley Apter, born on October 22, 1945, is an American journalist and photographer known for his specialization in professional wrestling. He served as an editorial staff member and photographer for several magazines over the course of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, most notably Pro Wrestling Illustrated. These publications often reported wrestling in kayfabe, emphasizing storylines and angles rather than backstage developments. Apter's close association with these magazines led to them being colloquially called 'Apter Mags.' The influence of these magazines was significant during a time when cable television and the Internet were not yet prevalent, and Apter has been credited with helping to launch the careers of many young wrestlers whom he featured on magazine covers.
