Benjamin Alexander Riley Jr. was an American jazz drummer born on July 17, 1933, and he passed away on November 18, 2017. He is recognized for his work with notable jazz figures including Sonny Rollins and Thelonious Monk. Throughout his career as a sideman, Riley collaborated with a range of influential musicians such as Alice Coltrane, Stan Getz, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, and Ahmad Jamal. In addition to his work with individual artists, he was a member of the group Sphere and contributed to the New York Jazz Quartet during the 1970s and 1980s.
