Barbara Eden, born Barbara Jean Morehead on August 23, 1931, is an American retired actress and singer. She is best known for her role as the title character in the sitcom I Dream of Jeannie, which aired from 1965 to 1970. Eden's career began with singing in bands during her teenage years, and she studied singing and acting to develop her talents. Her early television appearances included The Johnny Carson Show and series such as Burke's Law. By 1957, she was starring in the comedy TV series How to Marry a Millionaire, and she also started acting in plays. Eden's first major film role was in A Private's Affair in 1959. Her filmography includes notable movies such as Flaming Star, where she starred opposite Elvis Presley, and roles in television series like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea as Lieutenant Cathy Connors. After her success with I Dream of Jeannie, Eden primarily took on dramatic roles, including the TV movie Stonestreet: Who Killed the Centerfold Model? in 1977. Her career also encompassed musical comedy tours, theatrical performances, and appearances in variety shows and USO events. She headlined Las Vegas acts and released albums throughout her career. Eden's work extended to playing a widowed mother in the film comedy Harper Valley PTA and in its television spinoff series. She continued to collaborate with her I Dream of Jeannie co-star Larry Hagman, appearing together in episodes of Dallas and in the play Love Letters.
