Avi Lewis: podcast appearances and interviews

Avram David Avi Lewis, born in May 1967, is a Canadian journalist, filmmaker, professor, activist, and politician affiliated with Canada's New Democratic Party. He began his career in broadcasting, hosting programs for Citytv, CBC News, and Al Jazeera English, including The NewMusic, CounterSpin, On the Map with Avi Lewis, The Big Picture with Avi Lewis, and Fault Lines. In collaboration with his wife Naomi Klein, he directed the documentaries The Take and This Changes Everything. Lewis has also served as an associate professor at the University of British Columbia and as a lecturer at Rutgers University, engaging in academic and media work related to social and political issues. His political involvement started with the publication of the Leap Manifesto in 2015, which he contributed to alongside Klein and other activists. He subsequently ran as a federal candidate for the NDP in the 2021 and 2025 elections, finishing third in both campaigns. In March 2026, Lewis was elected leader of the New Democratic Party, securing 56 percent of the vote on the first ballot, and has been serving in that role since. Throughout his career, Lewis has combined media, academic, and political pursuits to advocate for progressive policies and social change in Canada.
