Ashton Applewhite: podcast appearances and interviews

Ashton Applewhite is a writer and activist based in Brooklyn, New York, born in 1952. She is the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism and is recognized as a leader in the movement to raise awareness of ageism and to dismantle it. Applewhite is a co-founder of the Old School Hub and has been acknowledged by prominent media outlets such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, and National Public Radio as an expert on ageism. She has spoken widely at various venues, including the TED Talks mainstage and the United Nations, and has contributed writings to publications such as Harper's, The Guardian, and The New York Times. She is also the voice behind the project 'Yo, Is This Ageist?' and has been recognized as a fellow by The New York Times, Yale Law School, and the Royal Society for the Arts. In 2016, Applewhite was named Influencer of the Year by Next Avenue's annual list of '50 Influencers in Aging'. Her recognition continued with appearances on HelpAgeUSA's '60 Over 60' list and Fe:maleOneZero's '40 over 40' list in 2022, the same year she received the Maggie Kuhn Award from Presbyterian Senior Services. That same year, the United Nations named her one of the Healthy Aging 50, acknowledging her as a leader transforming the world to be a better place for aging. Additionally, Applewhite authored Cutting Loose: Why Women Who End Their Marriages Do So Well, and as a pseudonymous author, she has written the Truly Tasteless Jokes series, which achieved notable success on The New York Times best-seller list.
