Anya-Josephine Marie Taylor-Joy is an actress born on 16 April 1996 in Miami. She was raised in Buenos Aires and London. Taylor-Joy began her acting career at the age of 16 and initially appeared in a series of small television roles. Her breakthrough came with a leading role in the horror film The Witch in 2015. She has also starred in films such as Split in 2016, its sequel Glass in 2019, the black comedy Thoroughbreds in 2017, and appeared in the television series Peaky Blinders from 2019 to 2022. In 2020, she played Emma Woodhouse in the period drama Emma. Taylor-Joy gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Beth Harmon in the miniseries The Queen's Gambit in 2020, which earned her the Golden Globe and SAG Award for Best Actress as well as a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress. Her other notable works include the horror film Last Night in Soho in 2021, the action movies The Northman in 2022 and The Gorge in 2025, the black comedy The Menu in 2022, and the apocalyptic film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in 2024 where she played the character Imperator Furiosa.
