Anna Anderson: podcast appearances and interviews

Anna Anderson was a staff attorney at the National Consumer Law Center. She gained notoriety for claiming to be Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia, the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, who was murdered along with her family in 1918. Anderson's assertions received varying public and media attention throughout her life, with some believing her to be Anastasia and others confirming her as an impostor. Biological analysis and DNA testing ultimately proved that Anderson was not related to the Romanov family, with her DNA matching that of Franziska Schanzkowska, a Polish factory worker. Anderson was institutionalized in a mental hospital in 1920 following a suicide attempt in Berlin; she spent many years living in Germany and the United States, often supported by supporters and residing in nursing homes, sanatoria, and at least one asylum. In 1968, she emigrated to the United States and married history professor Jack Manahan shortly before her visa expired. Anderson's body was cremated after her death in 1984, and her ashes were interred in Germany. The discovery of the Romanov remains after the collapse of communism confirmed their identities through extensive DNA analysis, which conclusively showed Anderson was not related to the Romanovs and was, in fact, Franziska Schanzkowska.
