Andrew Sykes: podcast appearances and interviews

Andrew Sykes is a lecturer of Entrepreneurship at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. His academic background includes a doctorate in industrial sociology from Glasgow University. He has previously served as a Professor of Sociology at the University of Strathclyde, where he taught from 1967 to 1989. During his tenure, he conducted research into various social and industrial issues, including social relations and attitude changes in fields such as printing, civil engineering, clerical employment, motor car assembling, social change in Ireland, industrial training, and shipping. In addition to his academic work, Sykes was a member of a 1974 Study Group established by the Institute for the Study of Conflict. This group published a report titled 'Sources of conflict in British Industry,' which examined conflicts driven by politically motivated trade unionists and extremist organizations within major British industries. The report concluded that influence exerted by Communist Party members and other left-wing groups could significantly disrupt industry and threaten democratic processes, especially noting the influence of extremist organizations in trade unions aimed at creating disruptive conditions for political ends. The findings attracted substantial publicity at the time, with media outlets like The Observer publishing sections of the report to highlight concerns about militant extremism and political subversion within British industry.
