Andrew Goodman: podcast appearances and interviews

Andrew Goodman was an American civil rights activist born on November 23, 1943. He participated as a volunteer in the Freedom Summer campaign, which aimed to register African Americans to vote in Mississippi and establish Freedom Schools for Black Southerners. Goodman worked alongside fellow activists James Chaney and Michael Schwerner, who were affiliated with the Congress of Racial Equality. His involvement in the Civil Rights Movement was marked by his efforts to support racial equality and voting rights for African Americans. Unfortunately, his activism was cut short when he was murdered in Philadelphia, Mississippi, on June 21, 1964, by members of the Ku Klux Klan. Goodman’s death, along with Chaney and Schwerner’s, drew national attention to the violent resistance faced by civil rights workers in the South and became a rallying point for the movement.
