André Lauren Benjamin, born on May 27, 1975, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and actor. Raised in Atlanta, Georgia, he is one half of the hip-hop duo Outkast, formed in 1992 with rapper Big Boi. Recognized for his early use of rap-singing, Benjamin is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time. As a member of Outkast, he contributed to six studio albums, each achieving both critical and commercial success. These albums produced hit singles such as 'Ms. Jackson,' 'Roses,' 'So Fresh, So Clean,' and 'Elevators (Me & You).' Their 2003 double album 'Speakerboxxx/The Love Below' featured Benjamin's solo performance of 'Hey Ya!' which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned the Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. The duo disbanded in 2007, after which Benjamin became less active as a solo artist but continued to collaborate as a guest, earning three additional Grammy Awards from eight nominations, including a solo nomination for his 2023 instrumental album 'New Blue Sun.'
