Amanda Benedicta Antony, known professionally as Amanda Black, is a South African singer and songwriter born on 24 July 1993 in Gcuwa. Her musical journey began at the age of six, singing in church choirs, and she gained public recognition as a contestant on Idols South Africa in its eleventh season. In 2016, she relocated to Johannesburg to further her music career and signed a record deal with Ambitiouz Entertainment. That same year, she released the hit single Amazulu, which earned multiple music award nominations and contributed to her rise to prominence. Her debut studio album also titled Amazulu was released in 2016 and achieved commercial success, winning awards such as Album of the Year, Best Newcomer of the Year, Best Female Artist of the Year, and Best R&B Soul/Reggae Album. By 2019, she was recognized as the most-streamed artist on Apple Music. Amanda released her third studio album, Mnyama, in 2021, which featured singles including Kutheni Na and Let It Go.
