Allan Horwitz: podcast appearances and interviews

Allan Victor Horwitz is an American sociologist born on August 22, 1948. He holds the position of Board of Governors Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research at Rutgers University. Throughout his career at Rutgers, he has served as Chair of the Department of Sociology and Dean for Behavioral and Social Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences. His research primarily concentrates on the sociology of mental health and illness. Horwitz has held leadership roles within professional organizations, including chairing the Mental Health and Medical Sociology Sections of the American Sociological Association and the Psychiatric Sociology Section of the Society for the Study of Social Problems. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field, notably receiving the Leonard I. Pearlin Award for Distinguished Contributions to the Sociological Study of Mental Health from the American Sociological Association’s Section on Sociology of Mental Health in 2006. Additionally, Horwitz has been a fellow-in-residence at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study during 2007–2008 and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University during 2012–13.
