Alison Wheeler: podcast appearances and interviews

Alison Wheeler, born on March 4, 1972, is a British singer known for her role as the female vocalist for The Beautiful South from 2003 until the band's disbandment in 2007. Her music career began at university, where she performed in a cover band called Melt City alongside musicians who would go on to join other notable bands. Upon moving to London, she joined the indie band Junk, which was later renamed Treehouse. In 2002, her collaboration with the London gospel band Citizen K led to an introduction to Dave Hemingway of The Beautiful South. She initially worked on Hemingway's solo album project, which did not get released, but this connection ultimately led to her joining The Beautiful South in 2003 following the release of their album Gaze. Wheeler contributed to subsequent albums including Goldiggas Headnodders and Pholk Songs and Superbi. Her bandmates nicknamed her Alison Lady Wheeler, a playful reference to her education at Trinity College, Cambridge, contrasting with the band's working-class northern image. After the band split in January 2007 due to musical differences, she spent time focusing on motherhood and recorded a solo project.
