Alex Eugene Newell, born on August 20, 1992, is an American actor and singer known for their work in television, theater, and music. They gained prominence for their role as Unique Adams on the Fox musical series Glee and played Mo on the series Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. In 2018, Newell starred as Asaka in the Broadway revival of Once on This Island at the Circle in the Square Theatre. They received critical acclaim for their performance in the musical Shucked, which earned them the 2023 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Newell and J. Harrison Ghee made history as the first openly non-binary actors to be nominated for and to win a Tony Award.
