Alexander Mashinsky is an Israeli-American entrepreneur and business executive known for co-founding Celsius Network, a cryptocurrency lending platform. He served as its chief executive officer until the company filed for bankruptcy. Mashinsky's career includes founding VoiceSmart in the early 1990s, a company that was among the first to offer telecommunications switches capable of handling both traditional voice calls and Voice over IP routing. In 2004, he established GroundLink, a service enabling users to book on-demand limousines and car services via computer or smartphone. He also founded Q-Wireless, which later became part of Transit Wireless, and served as CEO of Novatel from 2014 to 2015. Mashinsky's professional history has been overshadowed by legal issues; he has been the subject of a civil lawsuit in New York alleging securities fraud during his tenure at Celsius. In July 2023, both the Securities and Exchange Commission and federal authorities accused him of violating federal securities laws and engaging in market manipulation. He pleaded guilty to charges of commodities fraud and securities fraud and was subsequently sentenced to twelve years in federal prison.
