Abdulrazak Gurnah: podcast appearances and interviews

Abdulrazak Gurnah is a Tanzanian novelist and academic of Yemeni origin. Born in the Sultanate of Zanzibar on 20 December 1948, he moved to the United Kingdom in the 1960s as a refugee following the Zanzibar Revolution. Gurnah has authored several notable novels, including Paradise, which was shortlisted for both the Booker and the Whitbread Prize; By the Sea, longlisted for the Booker and shortlisted for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize; and Desertion, which was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize. His work often explores themes related to colonialism and the refugee experience. In 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his compassionate exploration of the effects of colonialism and the navigation of cultural and geographical dislocation. Gurnah has held academic positions such as Emeritus Professor of English and Postcolonial Literatures at the University of Kent. As of September 2024, he is serving as the Arts Professor of Literature at New York University Abu Dhabi, further contributing to the academic and literary worlds.
