A.M. Homes, born Amy M. Homes on December 18, 1961, is an American writer known for her controversial novels and unusual short stories that often feature extreme situations and characters. One of her most notable works is the novel The End of Alice, published in 1996, which centers on a convicted child molester and murderer. Homes was adopted at birth and met her biological parents for the first time at age 31. She explored her expanded family in her memoir The Mistress's Daughter, published in 2007. Her novel May We Be Forgiven, which was published by Viking Books in 2012, received notable recognition; its first chapter appeared in Granta's 100th issue in 2008 and was selected by Salman Rushdie for The Best American Short Stories that same year. The novel won the Women's Prize for Fiction in 2013. Her latest novel, The Unfolding, was published by Viking on September 6, 2022.
