Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is the largest research hub dedicated to theoretical physics globally. Founded in 1999 by Mike Lazaridis, it officially launched in 2000 in Waterloo, Ontario. The Institute operates as an independent, not-for-profit research center, supported by both the Governments of Ontario and Canada. The core mission of Perimeter is to advance understanding of the universe through foundational research in areas such as quantum gravity, string theory, and quantum information. It fosters a collaborative environment that encourages diverse approaches to complex scientific questions. Perimeter also offers educational programs, including the International Summer School for Young Physicists and training for high school teachers, while providing opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. In addition to its research and educational initiatives, Perimeter engages the public through lectures and an award-winning outreach program. The Institute maintains a free online database of scientific talks, making its research accessible to a broader audience. Its unique structure and focus on both research and public engagement set it apart in the field of theoretical physics.
