What does Catena Zapata do?

Catena Zapata, founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, is a prominent Argentine winery located in Mendoza. The winery is celebrated for its role in reviving Malbec as a premium grape variety and for pioneering high-altitude viticulture in the Andes. Under the leadership of third-generation winemaker Nicolás Catena, the winery shifted its focus in the 1980s to producing high-quality wines from extreme elevations, leading to the creation of notable wines like the Catena Malbec and the luxury cuvée Nicolás Catena Zapata. Today, Catena Zapata continues to innovate in winemaking, emphasizing sustainability and technology. The winery's flagship wines are crafted from high-altitude vineyards, including the Adrianna Vineyard, which is nearly 5,000 feet above sea level. Laura Catena, the current president, also founded the Catena Institute of Wine in 1995 to support research and enhance Argentina's wine reputation globally.
