What if the life you were taught to want isn't the life you actually want? For most of our lives, women are handed a script: Find the right man. Build a life together. Get married. And if you're single? Keep looking. But what happens when you stop looking? Hosted by Darla Ridilla, You Have the Power is an unapologetic exploration of permanent singlehood, women's voices, freedom, connection, and what becomes possible when a woman stops building her life around whether a man shows up. After three marriages, an abusive relationship, years of healing, and trying to date differently, Darla finally asked the question that blew the whole damn thing open: Why am I dating at all? Her answer was to choose permanent singlehood - on purpose. This podcast explores what comes after that choice: the freedom, the grief, the conditioning, the friendships, the solitud

111: Red Pill Men Are Giving Women Another Reason to Stay Single
Sep 14, 202618 min
Red pill men have a lot to say about what women should want, how women should behave, and what will happen to us if we refuse to play along. But there's something they don't seem to understand. The harder you try to control a woman, the less she wants anything to do with you. And when women are already questioning whether relationships with men add anything to their lives, telling us to submit, get in line, lower our standards, or prepare to "die alone" isn't exactly making a compelling case for why we should stay. In this episode, I'm asking what happens when women stop being afraid of the very thing men keep threatening us with. Because maybe the women choosing permanent singlehood aren't the ones who are afraid. And maybe red pill men need to start asking themselves a very different question: What if the very thing you're doing to regain control over women is exactly what's making us want nothing to do with you? What if marriage isn't the prize? What if some of what we've been taught about love, commitment, family, and what makes a woman's life complete deserves to be questioned? I know. I went there. After spending most of my life believing marriage was something I wanted, I finally asked myself a question I had been avoiding: What's actually in it for me? And once I started pulling that thread, a whole lot of things started unraveling. What if the life we've been taught to want isn't necessarily the life we would choose for ourselves? What if being single isn't the space between relationships? What if a woman without a husband isn't missing anything? And what if changing your mind about something you once deeply believed isn't a failure of your values - but evidence that you're finally deciding which values are actually yours? I'm not here to convince you that marriage is wrong. I'm asking something far more uncomfortable: Have you ever questioned why you believe it's right? Because if something is truly one of your values, questioning it won't destroy it. And if questioning it does? Maybe it was never yours to begin with. You don't have to come to the same conclusion I did. But you do get to ask the questions. Your life belongs to you. 109: What Happens When a Woman Finally Stops Looking?
Aug 31, 202622 min
What happens when a woman stops looking for a man? Not because she’s taking a break from dating. Not because she needs time to work on herself. And not because she’s secretly hoping the right man will show up the moment she stops looking. She actually stops. Last week, I made the decision to be Single on Purpose permanently. This week, I decided to pay attention to what happened next. How would I feel? Would I interact with men differently? Would I question my decision? And what would surface once dating, searching, and the possibility of a future relationship were no longer part of the equation? I wasn’t interested in proving anything. I wanted to observe what happened when I stopped building my life around something I had spent years believing I wanted. What came up during those first seven days surprised me. 108: I Quit Dating - and I’ve Never Felt More Free
Aug 25, 202631 min
What if giving up on dating isn’t giving up at all? For almost two years, I stayed open. I met men online and in person. I was specific about what I wanted. I worked on myself, held my standards, vetted men, and continued building a full life of my own. And not one man made it to the first date. Then one interaction this weekend finally clarified something that had been building in me for a long time: I don’t want to date anymore. Not because I’m taking a break. Not because I need more time to heal. Not because I’m waiting for God, the universe, or a dating app to deliver “the right one.” I simply don’t want a man badly enough to keep trading my time, energy and peace for the possibility of finding one. And the relief I felt when I finally admitted that surprised even me. In this episode, I’m talking about the entitlement that pushed me over the edge, why interest is not intention, the freedom of knowing my answer to a date is simply no , and why some of the most surprising pushback to my decision came from other women. Because being single is not a problem that needs to be solved. Single on Purpose is no longer my waiting room for a relationship. This is the life I choose. My weekends belong to me. My energy belongs to me. My peace belongs to me. And the biggest realization of all? The life I thought I was searching for was the life I was already living. 107: We’re Not Giving Up on Men - We’re Done Abandoning Ourselves
Aug 18, 202625 min
What if women aren’t giving up on love? What if we’re finally giving up on abandoning ourselves to have it? For years, I made decisions around one question: Will he choose me? I gave up things I loved. I made my life smaller. I changed pieces of myself. I stayed in relationships long after I knew something wasn’t right because being alone felt more frightening than losing another piece of myself. I don’t live that way anymore. In this deeply personal episode, I’m talking about what self-abandonment actually looks like, including the subtle compromises we barely notice until one day we realize we don’t recognize the woman looking back at us. I share what happened when I gave up singing to make room for relationships, how control showed up in one of my marriages, why commitment does not require a woman to remain in a relationship that is abusive or no longer aligned, and what it took for me to finally reclaim my identity and my voice. And I’m talking about something some men still don’t understand: Women are no longer waiting to find out whether you choose us. We’re asking a different question: Do I want the relationship you’re offering me? There is nothing wrong with wanting love, companionship, intimacy or an emotionally willing man. But wanting a relationship and wanting one badly enough to sacrifice yourself to have it are two very different things. This is about standards with a backbone. It’s about choosing peace over chaos. It’s about becoming unavailable for relationships that require you to become less of yourself. And ultimately, it’s about one question: What are you no longer willing to give up just so you can say you’re in a relationship?
