In Hell, There Is No Help and No Hope
When the rich man in hell begged Abraham to send help, the answer was final β there is a great gulf fixed, and no one crosses it. If you have ever wondered whether there is any second chance after death, or whether anyone in hell can reach heaven, Luke 16:25β31 (KJV) answers clearly and soberly: no help, no hope, no way out. βΆ WATCH NEXT In Hell, You Will Still Be Able to Remember https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrODLYGQ-QA In this Words From The Word devotion, Pastor Roderick Webster walks through the closing verses of Jesus's account of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man cannot escape his torment. He cannot receive help. So he turns to the only thing left β pleading for someone to warn his five brothers before it is too late. And the response from Abraham is one of the most searching statements in all of Scripture: "If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Jesus rose from the dead. Is the world listening? That question, Pastor Webster shows, is exactly what drove Paul to persuade men in 2 Corinthians 5. The terror of what awaits those without Christ is not meant to paralyze believers β it is meant to move them. Key points from this devotion: - In hell there is no help and no chance of escape β the gulf is fixed - The rich man's only concern became warning others, but it was too late for him to act - Abraham's response shows that God's Word β not miracles β is the appointed means of rescue - The terror of the Lord is a legitimate, biblical motivation for gospel witness - The call to repentance is urgent: "except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish" (Luke 13:3) If this devotion moved you, please like, leave a comment, and share it with someone who needs to hear it.
