Whispers from Riven

When something good lands, let it land. You do not have to check it for cracks or start bracing for what comes next. A warm cup, a quiet room, a laugh that surprises you, these are not previews of trouble. They are...

You have been composing that message for three days now, editing it in your head every time you think of them. It does not need to be perfect. It does not need to be clever or complete. Just send the small true part...

There’s a special brave in being new at something. Not the hero kind, the wobbly kind, where your hands don’t know the shape of it yet. You don’t have to be good at it. You only have to let yourself start, clumsy and...

There’s a plant on the sill that’s been all leaf and no bloom for weeks. I keep wanting to check the soil, move it closer to the window, do something to it. But this morning I just watered it and left it alone. Not...

When the light goes, let it go. You do not have to outwork the sun. The dishes can wait. The list can wait. Sit by the window and watch the colors give up, one by one, the way they were always going to. Rest is not a...

The chipped mug stays. Not because you’re lazy about replacing it, but because it’s yours now, in the exact way you’re yours. You don’t have to arrive fixed. Tape the spine, sew the seam crooked, let the scar have...

Somebody checked that your door was locked tonight. Nobody announced it. No flowers, no speech, just the small machinery of being cared for. You don’t have to be impressive to be loved. You can be tired and a little...

Some days the grief does not knock. It just sits in the passenger seat while you drive, humming along to a song you used to skip together. You do not have to be strong about it, and you do not have to be done with...

You are thought of more often than you know. Not in big loud ways. In small ones. Someone hears a song and thinks, oh, they would like this part. Someone saves the last bite, just in case. Someone looks at an empty...

You've been holding your breath. I can tell by your shoulders, up around your ears like they're guarding something. Here's the permission today: let them drop. Let your body finish the sentence you've been rushing...

The rain is back on the window again, and nobody asked it to hurry. That's the permission today. Let something in your life take its own sweet time. A wet afternoon does not apologize for being slow, and neither...

The day is asking nothing of you for these first five minutes. Not the plan, not the proof, not the version of you with everything figured out. The kettle boils. The light moves across the counter. Let the morning be...
