Daily Mishna #22: Berachot 4:4
Rabbi Joseph Dana records a short daily Mishnah class, working through all of Mishnah a few minutes at a time. Mishnah Berachot 4:4 - the Mishnah teaches that a person who makes his prayer a fixed obligation, something to just get done, has a prayer that is not truly a plea. It then gives the short prayer for a dangerous place: "Save, Hashem, Your people, the remnant of Israel; at every crossing may their needs be before You." The class explains that tefillah is about connecting to Hashem, and that even in danger a person still prays. Rabbi Dana also brings the Bartenura on the phrase "every crossing," which is read as a request that Hashem stay connected to us even at times when we have drifted away. --- Chapters: (0:00) Tefillah is connection, not obligation (0:30) Prayer as a fixed task (1:00) The short prayer in a dangerous place (1:30) The Bartenura on "every crossing" (1:55) Stay connected even when we drift --- Visit: westdealshul.org Sponsorships: west.deal.classes@gmail.com
